oldforgehoney.co.uk is the website of Old Forge Apiaries Ltd, a family-run beekeeping business based in South Cambridgeshire operated by beekeeper Ross and partner Sarah. Ross has been keeping bees for several years, a hobby patiently tolerated by Sarah as it quickly outgrew their allotment and expanded to a new apiary nearby. Combining this experience in beekeeping with Sarah’s background in catering management, we set up our honey business with the aim of supplying the best quality local English honey available, both direct to customers and wholesale to local outlets.
We supply honey, beeswax and other hive products, both from our own beehives and other local beekeepers. Our approach to beekeeping is to manage our hives as sustainably as possible, following the approach of ‘balanced beekeeping’. For us, this means that while we manage our bees for honey production and ensure our bees are happy and healthy by carrying out regular inspections and feeding and treating them as necessary, we also allow our bees to live as naturally as possible by using no synthetic chemical treatments and using management techniques which mimic the bees natural cycle as closely as possible, including allowing them to build their own natural honeycomb instead of using wax foundation. We use a range of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques to keep our bees healthy and are pleased to now be able to offer these to other beekeepers in our shop.
All of our honey is packed in our 5* hygiene rated premises in Sawston, Cambridgeshire and we sell direct to customers locally and can post our products nationally, as well as selling wholesale to retailers in Cambridgeshire and the surrounding area. We also offer a honey packing service for other beekeepers and buy honey and hive products in bulk.
